I’m going to talk about how I have a super focused high energy day. I work from home and have a cute puppy so distractions are endless here at the Treviño home. To make sure I get stuff done I have to set myself up.
(This plan works if you work from home or are able to plan your day. 9-5ers, it’s possible, but that’s not my gig so not sure. With some extra planning it could work.)
It’s a must to eat good food. Real food. Nothing that’s going to make me want to take a nap. The bed is SO CLOSE. And I want to avoid it. Don’t get me wrong, I love naps. But on my terms. Not because I can’t keep my eyes open. Oh and get this, a restaurant opened up on the first floor of my building and their gluten-free pancakes are so GOOD. (see…distractions.)
Anyways, here’s what I do and if you want to experience it and see if it works for you too, great. Consider it a challenge. It’s one day.
You can do anything for ONE DAY.
This post is action-oriented. So I’m not going into details about why things are good, etc. I’ll include some links to articles if you want to find out more.
Drink a large glass of filtered water right when you wake up. I like room temperature water. I squeeze the juice of half a lemon in my water.
Juice and drink 30 oz. of fresh juice. I’m a freestyle juicer which means whatever fruits/veggies are in my fridge I juice. My latest favorite juice is below.
I use cucumber and celery as my base because you get lots of juice from those veggies. And be sure to sandwich in the spinach in between a couple of cucumbers. That way you can get some spinach juice. Otherwise it’s a little tough to juice free flowing leave. Make sense?
If you want to be a master at this, I highly recommend picking up my friends book. The Healthy Juicer’s Bible. (#justsayin I’m quoted on pg. 48) It’s a beautiful book with everything you need to know about juicing along with recipes of course.
- 2 cucumbers
- 7 stalks of celery
- 1 big handful of spinach
- 1 apple
- 2 one-inch thick slices of fresh pineapple
Nothing crazy. Just get out in nature. Sit under a tree. Walk the park. Big-city folk get out in the sun for 10-minutes. I have a puppy so we take a few breaks throughout the day. On your walk think about all the good things you have going on. In your work, with your relationships, family, etc. This gets you in the right mindset for the rest of the day.
Still with me? Ok, so all of the above takes about 30 minutes. That’s doable yo. After this you are ready to sit down and work for a bit. Even if you just do this, you’ll feel great.
I break up my day a lot and recently had a work date with my friend Thérèse. This is great for accountability and getting shit done. We talk and tell each other what we plan to do during the next few hours or so. And check in with each other along the way. No slacking. It works.
More real food! In my Vitamix I blend a smoothie for lunch. My latest favorite smoothie recipe is below. Again, if you want to become a smoothie master, pick up my friends book. The Healthy Smoothie Bible. It’s broken down perfectly and takes you through any questions you can possibly come up with.
- 1 banana
- 1 big handful of spinach
- 1/2 cup of frozen mango
- 1/2 cup of frozen berries
- 1 cup of water
- 1 pack of Justin’s classic Almond butter
Blend until smooth!
This is more of a beginner smoothie because it’s more fruit than veggie so you’ll love it. (I made this for a friend recently and he said it was really good and something he could see drinking every day.)
Because it’s fun. I just got back from a short weekend trip in Austin and haven’t been able to stop listening to this song. I heard this at a BBQ pool party amongst friends and it was lots of fun, so it also brings back those memories. If you have a song that does this for you, even better. Akasha, my puppy, and I have dance parties and it puts us in a great mood.
Ready, get set, GO! (skip to 1:30 if you don’t want to watch the funny intro. also, explicit lyrics throughout.)
After another work date, that’s pretty much your day. This short and sweet plan will keep you satiated. If you need to juice more throughout the day, do it. Continue to drink water all day long. And if you can, get out for another short walk.
For dinner, I either make a soup, or steam/bake/roast some veggies. What are your favorite veggies? Eat those. And definitely make some guacamole or at least eat some avocado slices and sprinkle some pink Himalayan sea salt and lemon over them. Or keep it simple and make a salad. Keep the dressing simple too. (Mix up some olive oil, lemon juice, and salt and pepper.)
The key here is to continue to eat fresh real food. (No animal meat or grains or dairy allowed.) Remember, nothing that’s going to slow you down.
If you want a super focused high energy day, download the checklist pdf I created. Use it for easy reference.
To recap: Drink lemon water, green juice, a green smoothie, eat fresh real food, move your body, plan a work date, and get your mindset right.
And that’s it. That’s my simple plan. (How many times did I use the word simple?)
